Description: A hand-written letter to Ada Young from her daughter “Kikik,” informing Ada about her friend Lily’s wellbeing and her piano lessons. After the death of her father, Col. Charles Young, the first African American to reach the rank of Colonel in the U.S. Army. In 1918, after being forced into retirement, due to health concerns, he rode on horseback from Wilberforce, Ohio to Washington D.C. to prove his physical fitness for duty. View on Ohio Memory.
