Description: Col. Charles Young’s father, Gabriel Young signed over his Greenwood Cemetery Plot to Lindsey Young. Hence, Lindsey’s name was added to the tombstone of Gabriel Young. Col. Charles Young, the first African American to reach the rank of Colonel in the U.S. Army. In 1918, after being forced into retirement, due to health concerns, he rode on horseback from Wilberforce, Ohio to Washington D.C. to prove his physical fitness for duty. View on Ohio Memory.
