Description: Portrait of Richard F. Celeste, who served as Governor of Ohio from January 10, 1983 to January 14, 1991. Born on November 11, 1937, in Cleveland, Ohio, he graduated from Yale University in 1959, then received a Rhodes Scholarship to study at Oxford University, beginning his international career. He joined the Peace Corps and then worked as an executive assistant to the United States Ambassador to India. Celeste later served in the Ohio House of Representatives as a Democrat, became Ohio's lieutenant governor, director of the Peace Corps before being elected Ohio Governor. Celeste was appointed United States Ambassador to India by President Bill Clinton in 1997, where he remained until 2001. View on Ohio Memory.
