: This photograph is a part of a series of photographs taken by the Ohio Department of Agriculture documenting farms in Ohio. Pictured is the sugar camp on the farm of W. I. Chamberlain, located one mile north of Hudson, Ohio, in Summit County. Chamberlain (1837-1920) served at one time as Secretary of the Ohio Board of Agriculture. At the time of this photograph in 1910, Chamberlain had 113 acres, including 15 acres in old orchard and 10 acres in young orchard and 12 acres of potatoes. In addition, Chamberlain had 400 maple trees and the sugar camp seen here, used for processing maple sap into syrup during the late winter and early spring. Notes accompanying the photograph indicate that Chamberlain's farm had produced 280 gallons of syrup the previous year. View on Ohio Memory.
