Description: This oil portrait shows James T. Worthington, the oldest son of Ohio political leader Thomas Worthington. Born in 1802, Worthington was educated at Ohio University and the United States Military Academy at West Point. He later practiced law in Chillicothe and served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1831-1833 and 1840. Worthington also served as major general in the 16th Division of Militia, 3rd Regiment in Chillicothe. Following the death of his mother, Eleanor Worthington, James and his family moved to the family estate Adena, where he lived until his death in 1881. The portrait measures 30.11 by 35 inches (76.5 by 30.11 cm). View on Ohio Memory.
