Description: Interior sketch of the Civil War Monitor USS Montauk by W. T. Crane, sized 6"X 4". On April 15th, 1865, aboard the Montauk, Naval Surgeon George B. Todd wrote a letter to his brother detailing his eyewitness account of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln the previous night. The later autopsy and identification of the body of John Wilkes Booth was also performed on the Montauk. Caption reads, "Interior of the turret of the United States ironclad monitor "Montauk" from a sketch by W. T. Crane." View on Ohio Memory.
