Description: Joseph Smith. Jr., author of the Book of Mormon, directed the construction of this temple after reporting having a revelation in 1831. Berea sandstone used was quarried from the base of Gildersleeve Mountain. Mixing Federal, Greek Revival and Gothic Revival architectural styles, it was dedicated on March 27, 1836. This temple is the first structure of its kind built by the Latter Day Saints. According to Leonard Arrington's economic history of the Latter Day Saint movement, Great Basin Kingdom, the completed temple had cost $40,000. View on Ohio Memory.

Description: St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, built between 1894 and 1915, was the result of planning by the Most Reverend Camillus Paul Maes, third Bishop of the Diocese of Covington. Designed by artist and architect Leon Coquard, construction was funded by "subscriptions" from many private donors. Building was completed in phases, as funding allowed, and even when stopped in 1915, was incomplete. One of only 35 minor basilicas in the United States, the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption was awarded that distinction on December 8, 1953. View on Ohio Memory.

Description: The First Presbyterian Church of Fremont, Ohio was established on November 30, 1833. The congregation met in various buildings until they were able to build a church in 1847. It was built on the corner of Park Avenue and Garrison Street. Due to the growth of the congregation, a cornerstone was laid for the new Romanesque style edifice on the site of their former place of worship. Three years later, it was dedicated debt free. It became the first tall-steepled church downtown in the city of Fremont. Stained glass windows were added in an extensive renovation in 1893-94, bringing it to its present day appearance.
