Description: This photograph is a formal portrait of Jefferson Stone Combs (1870-1946), a member of the 79th Ohio General Assembly House of Representatives (1911-1912). This photograph appears in the "Legislative Manual of the State of Ohio 1912." He was born in Leonardtown, Maryland, where he attended public schools. He worked as a businessman in Washington, D.C. and in Dayton, Ohio, before moving to Troy, Ohio, in 1898. There he began his association with Hobart Electric Manufacturing Company. He also was director of the First National Bank of Troy and a member of the city council. When he was elected to the Ohio General Assembly, Combs was the first Democratic representative from Miami County in 45 years. He died on Nov. 6, 1946 and was buried in Our Lady's Church at Medley's Neck Cemetery, Leonardtown, Maryland. View on Ohio Memory.

Taft was born on January 8, 1942 in Boston, Massachusetts, but was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. He earned a bachelor's degree in government from Yale University, a master's degree in government from Princeton University, and his law degree from the University of Cincinnati Law School. Before becoming governor in 1999, Taft served as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives, Hamilton County's commissioner, and Ohio's secretary of state. During his two terms as governor, he focused on creating jobs, building up Ohio's technology sector, and improving Ohio's school systems, especially those located in underserved communities. Bowdish in the 1870s, this stereograph shows members of the Ohio Senate in the assembly room at the Ohio Statehouse located at 1 Capitol Square in Columbus, Ohio, on the corners of Broad and High Streets. This stereograph is part of the John H. Klippart Family Collection, an audiovisual collection of 433 items, including tintypes, stereoviews, daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, cabinet cards, and carte-de-visites from 1850-1920, belonging to John H. Klippart. Born in Canton, Ohio, in 1823, Klippart took on many business ventures throughout his life, but is most noted for his roles in the agriculture industry. In 1855 Klippart was associate editor of the "Ohio Farmer" and in 1856 was elected corresponding secretary of the Ohio State Board of Agriculture. As secretary he promoted agricultural improvement and education throughout the state of Ohio, and in 1865 toured Europe under a commission from the United States Commissioner of Agriculture to gather information on agricultural procedures. He also served as an assistant on the Ohio Geological Survey, and in 1873 was appointed commissioner of fisheries. View on Ohio Memory.

2. Read and Agree

Ohio History Connection Use Agreement and Conditions of Reproduction

  1. One-Time Use. The right to reproduce materials held in the collections of the Ohio History Connection is granted on a one-time basis only, and only for private study, scholarship or research. Any further reproduction of this material is prohibited without the express written permission of the Ohio History Connection.
  2. Use Agreement. Materials are reproduced for research use only and may not be used for publication, exhibition, or any other public purpose without the express written permission of the Ohio History Connection.
  3. Credit. Any publication, exhibition, or other public use of material owned by the Ohio History Connection must credit the Ohio History Connection. The credit line should read “Courtesy of the Ohio History Connection” and should include the image or call number. The Ohio History Connection appreciates receiving a copy or tearsheet of any publication/presentation containing material from the organization’s collections.
  4. Indemnification. In requesting permission to reproduce materials from the collections of the Ohio History Connection as described, the requestor agrees to hold harmless the OHC and its Trustees, Officers, employees and agents either jointly or severally from any action involving infringement of the rights of any person or their heirs and descendants in common law or under statutory copyright.
  5. Reproduction of Copyrighted Material. Permission to reproduce materials in which reproduction rights are reserved must be granted by signed written permission of the persons holding those rights.
  6. Copyright. The Ohio History Connection provides permission to use materials based on the organization’s ownership of the collection. Consideration of the requirements of copyrights is the responsibility of the author, producer, and publisher. Applicants assume all responsibility for questions of copyright and invasion of privacy that may arise in copying and using the materials available through Ohio Memory.
    Warning concerning copyright restriction: The copyright law of the U. S. (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to a photocopy or reproduction. One of the specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship or research.” If a user make a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement.
