Description: Dated September 1937, this photograph shows Bond Hill Public School in Cincinnati, Ohio, located at 1510 California Avenue, erected in 1932. The original description for the photograph reads "Bond Hill Public School." As of 2010, the building was demolished and rebuilt with architectural elements from the original 1932 building, including the four white columns and a pediment that frames the main entrance. Now known as Bond Hill Academy, the school serves pre-kindergarten through grade 8. This photograph is one of the many visual materials collected for use in the Ohio Guide. In 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt established the Works Progress Administration by executive order to create jobs for the large numbers of unemployed laborers, as well as artists, musicians, actors, and writers. The Federal Arts Program, a sector of the Works Progress Administration, included the Federal Writers’ Project, one of the primary goals of which was to complete the America Guide series, a series of guidebooks for each state which included state history, art, architecture, music, literature, and points of interest to the major cities and tours throughout the state. Work on the Ohio Guide began in 1935 with the publication of several pamphlets and brochures. The Reorganization Act of 1939 consolidated the Works Progress Administration and other agencies into the Federal Works Administration, and the Federal Writers’ Project became the Federal Writers’ Project in Ohio. The final product was published in 1940 and went through several editions. The Ohio Guide Collection consists of 4,769 photographs collected for use in Ohio Guide and other publications of the Federal Writers’ Project in Ohio from 1935-1939. View on Ohio Memory.

Jefferson Union High School is located about 2 miles north of Richmond, Ohio in the 9890 State Route 152 North (Lisben Street), just south of County Road 56. The Art Deco style, 3-story, light-colored brick building was built in 1938. Due to the economy, the public schools districts have consolidated, and JUHS became Edison South High School for a time, then Edison High School. View on Ohio Memory.

This 3-story brick building has a stone bearing the name "Wintersville School" above the main entrance. The school was constructed in 1928, and as of 2012 has been the location for Jefferson County Christian School. Wintersville is located about 5 miles east of Steubenville, Ohio, and was laid out by John Winters around 1831.
