Horace Pease moved from Connecticut to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1816 and moved to Montgomery County in 1823. He lived in Carrollton (now West Carrollton). Description: Reverse reads "Burnside House, West 9th Street, Cincinnati, Ohio" Signs on front of building read "24 East Ninth" and "Hotel America, for Ladies and Gentlemen, Rates Weekly $3 up, Night 75 cents up." This three story red brick building, located at 24 E. Ninth Street in Cincinnati, Ohio, was once General Burnside's Headquarters, during Civil War days. Ambrose Burnside was a General for the Union Army during the Civil War, as well as being a politician, industrialist and an inventor. It was from this house that he issued Order 38, which stated "The habit of declaring sympathy for the enemy will not be allowed.." His characteristic facial hair led to the style which now are called sideburns, and was named for him. The was located on the block of East Ninth Street which is now the Public Library of Cincinnati. Description: The Singletary House was located on the northwest corner of the public squre in Streetsboro, Ohio and was completed in 1828 for patriot and Revolutionary War veteran Colonel John Curtis Singletary, whose son became the second mayor of Akron. This frame house is the second oldest in Ohio’s Western Reserve and was the first frame house in Streetsboro. The building has also been a tavern and stagecoach stop for the Cleveland – Wellsville – Pittsburgh line, as well as the city's first post office and the housed the township's telephone operator. . In 1971, the home was purchased by Henry and Betty Defer, who had the house moved to their farm on State Route 14. In 2005, the Defer’s sold their 127 acre farm to the Woodmount Developers of Texas. The house was moved again in 2009, to make way for the Streetsboro Commons shopping mall, which is being developed by Woodmount and Wal-Mart, who donated $80,000 to help move the historic home to a nearby nature area where it will assume management by the newly formed Streetsboro Heritage Foundation. Description: Located at 5870 Belmont Avenue in the College Hill area of Cincinnati, Ohio, the Peter G. Thomson Home is better known as Laurel Court and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The Beau Arts Neoclassical style home, completed in 1907, was built for Peter G. Thomson, founder of Champion Paper, and designed by James Gamble Rogers, the nephew of Peter’s wife Laura Gamble Thomson. It was modeled after the Petit Trianon, a “small” chateau on the grounds of the Palace of Versailles in France, and is considered one of the finest homes in America. The exterior is made from chiseled granite and was originally built on twenty three acres, on the highest point in Hamilton County. The Thomson family lived in the home until 1947. Today, the private residence stands on seven and a half acres of land, and the numerous original buildings, gardens, statues and fountains are open for tours and special events by reservation only. Some of the notable features of this home include the retractable roof of the two story Atrium in the center of the house, the Rookwood tiled swimming pool, the African Rosewood tiled Library, and the gilded Music Room.
