Description: Zenas King (1818-1892) built this house in 1847. It is an example of Greek Revival architecture. King founded the King Bridge Company of Cleveland, Ohio and invented the iron suspension bridge. The house has a temple front, rare west of the Cuyahoga River. It is noted for its portico supported by ionic columns and hand carved fretwork on the pediment, as well as its use of undersized bricks. The house still stands at 128 Center Street. The temple portico has an entablature with dentil detailing and a triangular gable known as a pediment. The tympanum, or face of the pediment, is decorated with shells and scrolls. Pilasters are found at the front corners and give the illusion of additional columns. The first floor windows are ornamented with anthemion, a conventionalized leaf ornament which appears to radiate from a single point. Description: The Schoenberger House, better known as Scarlet Oaks and located at 440 Layfayette Avenue in the Clifton community of Cincinnati, Ohio, was designed by James Keys (also Key or Keyes) Wilson mainly in the Gothic Revival style. The blue limestone mansion with freestone trim was built for George K. Schoenberger, owner of Juanita Ironworks, and thought the date 1867 appears on the east gable, the huge castle was not completed until closer to 1870. Around 1910, it was converted into the Scarlet Oaks Sanitarium, an annex of the Bethesda Hospital, founded German Methodist deaconesses and is now it is called the Scarlet Oaks Retirement Community, owned by Deaconess Long Term Care, Inc. Description: Located at 5870 Belmont Avenue in the College Hill area of Cincinnati, Ohio, the Peter G. Thomson Home is better known as Laurel Court and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The Beau Arts Neoclassical style home, completed in 1907, was built for Peter G. Thomson, founder of Champion Paper, and designed by James Gamble Rogers, the nephew of Peter’s wife Laura Gamble Thomson. It was modeled after the Petit Trianon, a “small” chateau on the grounds of the Palace of Versailles in France, and is considered one of the finest homes in America. The exterior is made from chiseled granite and was originally built on twenty three acres, on the highest point in Hamilton County. The Thomson family lived in the home until 1947. Today, the private residence stands on seven and a half acres of land, and the numerous original buildings, gardens, statues and fountains are open for tours and special events by reservation only. Some of the notable features of this home include the retractable roof of the two story Atrium in the center of the house, the Rookwood tiled swimming pool, the African Rosewood tiled Library, and the gilded Music Room. This photograph depicts a very tall pine tree in the center, and in the bottom left corner, a small portion of a porch can be seen. This is most likely "The Pines", located at 3030 Erie Avenue in Cincinnati, Ohio, which takes it's name from the abundant pine tree on the 11 acre property, some of which were thought to be 150 years old or more (around the 1930's or 40's). The three story brick home, with slate Mansard roof and dormer windows was built in 1927 for Scotsman John Hey. A veranda spans the entire front and some of the side of the building. Description: Reverse reads "Cinci., O., Mar. 1938. Pounsford Home, College Hill, Ohio." The photograph depicts a white two story Federal style home, with a small front porch, and a barn behind the house. Pounsford house was located in the College Hill community of Cincinnati Ohio. This photograph is most likely of the home which used to be located on Belmont Avenue, which, if true, means that this home was originally that of Captain A.D.E. Tweed, and built in 1865. Tweed’s home and 20acres was sold to Arthur H. Pounsford in 1883 and demolished in 1969 to make way for a new building for the First United Church of Christ. It is possible that the carriage remained, and was used by the church. A portion of the front yard of the Pounsford home was sold at an unknown point, and new houses built. It is also possible that this was the Pounsford home known as Chatfield, also located in the College Hill area, on Hamilton Avenue. This property was donated to the College Hill Presbyterian Church in 1953 (the white frame house at that time being over 100 years old). It was used as residence of head custodians until it was demolished in 1981. Arthur (A.H.) Pounsford, father of Harry Graham (H.G.), and founder of Pounsford Stationary Company, died in 1894 and buried in Spring Grove cemetery. He was an important business man, but also served many years as councilman, president of the Village Improvement Society, and involved with many other public projects. Description: This photograph shows the front left side of the Harry Linch (Lynch) home, located at 960 Avondale Avenue in the North Avondale community of Cincinnati, Ohio. Built for Cincinnati lawyer Harry L. Linch, it was designed in a combination of Spanish, Italian and Federal style architecture by Grosvenor Atterbury, using rough stone with red brick trim. It is largely an imitation of Atterbury's work for Linch's neighbor, Jean Maxwell Schmidlapp (Ca Sole) in nearby Hyde Park. Landscaping was done by Ferrucio Vitale. View on Ohio Memory.

Description: This house was built in 1828 by John Pray as a trading post and stagecoach stopping post. It has served many purposes over the years, from a jail to a school to a ballroom. In 1927, Henry Ford held his Halloween party in the building, probably because of its reputation for being haunted. In the 1930s, this house was occupied by Toledo antiques dealer Charles Capron.
