Ohio Governors Collection
Description: This 16 page booklet contains the text of Governor Seabury Ford’s message to the 49th General Assembly on Dec. 5, 1850. Ford (1801-1855) was a Whig politician who, after the closest election in Ohio history, served as Ohio’s 20th governor from 1849 to 1850. During his term, the legislature was bitterly divided between Whigs and Democrats, who disagreed regarding issues such as slavery. Ford’s administration also dealt with the Columbus cholera crisis of 1849. View on Ohio Memory.
