Description: A hand written letter to the U.S. Government from Ada Young, in regards to seeking employment. Ada Young the widow of Col. Charles Young, who was the first African American to reach the rank of Colonel in the U.S. Army. In 1918, after being forced into retirement, due to health concerns, he rode on horseback from Wilberforce, Ohio to Washington D.C. to prove his physical fitness for duty. View on Ohio Memory.
