Edward Harness Collection
Description: Small Hopewell copper celt (ungrooved ax) is rectangular and tapers from the bit end, which is slightly rounded, and flares outward to the poll end, which is straight. The underside is flat, while the upper surface is curved. Remnants of textile adhere to the upper surface. The copper has corroded and is now dusky green to grayish green in color. Item was excavated from Harness Mound in Ross County, Ohio. View on Ohio Memory.
