Hopewell Mound Group
Description: Effigy pipe made from black steatite (soapstone). The platform is composed of two naturalistic, intertwined goose heads that have open bills filled with blocky cylinders. One cylinder is drilled to form the pipe stem. The bowl is formed by the intertwined necks of the birds and the lip flares outward. Pipe was broken in two pieces that have been glued back together. Item was excavated from the Hopewell Site in Twin Township, Ross County, Ohio. View on Ohio Memory.
