Hopewell Mound Group
Description: Large canine tooth was inserted into a carved and engraved bone socket. The tooth is inset with one large pearl. The bone socket is cut with a reveal around the pearl and decorated with incised lines and drilled punctates. The pearl is somewhat degraded. Tooth ranges in color from pink to reddish brown. The bone socket is brown. The object has been covered with a shellac or preservative. Item was excavated from the Hopewell Site in Twin Township, Ross County, Ohio. View on Ohio Memory.
