: This photograph shows Zane Grey and friends forming a human pyramid, taken from a scrapbook kept during Grey's youth. Grey attended the University of Pennsylvania for dentistry, only to decide after graduation that he wanted to be a writer. In his lifetime he wrote over ninety books--most were Westerns, but fishing was also a common theme. Some of his works include "Spirit of the Border," "Desert Gold," "The Last Trail," "The Call of the Canyon," and "The Thundering Herd." The photo has lightened over time and has large yellow spot in the lower corner. View on Ohio Memory.
