Description: This photograph depicts a close view of mounds at the Mound City Group. The Mound City Group is a large Hopewell culture ceremonial center found along the Scioto River in Ross County. The entire group consists of 24 burial mounds surrounded by a large earthen enclosure that is square-shaped with rounded corners. Several mounds were excavated in the 1800s. In the 1920s William C. Mills and Henry C. Shetrone of the Ohio Historical Society excavated several more mounds.
