Description: This photograph shows a group of men excavating a Hopewell mound, probably mound 25 according to a note on the reverse of the photograph. Another note on the reverse reads "Starting a 50 feet trench in a mound. When down to within 8 or 10 feet of [the] bottom (base) we stop the teams and excavate the remainder by hand."
