Ohio History Connection
Description: John and Annie Glenn commissioned mugs from Raye Saweson, an artist basted in Findlay, Ohio, to give as Christmas gifts to John's staff and fellow senators when John served in the Senate (1974-1999). This ceramic mug is brown and has straight sides, a slightly concave neck, flared rim and ear-shaped handle. Engraved in the clay of the body are vertical lines with "Merry Christmas 1979 Annie + John Glenn" at their top. "Raye Saweson / Findlay, Ohio" is engraved on the base of the mug. Lyn and David Glenn, children of John and Annie Glenn, donated several items belonging to their parents in 2018. Many of the objects are from their household or are related to John Glenn's career as an astronaut and U.S. Senator. View on Ohio Memory.
