Tressel Family's Ohio State University Postcard   Save
Ohio History Connection
Description: Lee Tressel sent this postcard to his fiance, Miss Eloise Shaefer, on February 8th, 1943. Lee Tressel eventually enlisted to fight in World War II rather than play football for The Ohio State University. After the war, he enrolled in Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, and he and Eloise were married. Their son, Jim Tressel, became the head coach of The Ohio State Buckeyes Football Team in 2001. Jim inherited a love of history from his mother Eloise Tressel, the athletic historian for Baldwin-Wallace College and past president of the Ohio Association of Historical Society & Museums. He keeps this postcard on his desk at OSU as a reminder of the challenges his parents faced. Coach Tressel spoke about the postcard at the 2009 Statehood Day in Columbus, Ohio.
