Undocumented Artifacts from the First Ohioans Exhibit
Description: This pentagonal biface of the Jack's Reef Corner-Notched type has deep corner notches. This piece is made of black flint and comes from the Intrusive Mound Culture. The Intrusive Mound culture is one of the least understood culture groups in southern Ohio. As the name suggests, this group is best known for their use of existing Hopewell and Adena culture mounds for burial. The Intrusive Mound culture produced a wide array of tools from bone and antler. Individuals were commonly buried with a wide range of distinctive tools made from bone and antler. Such tools are fairly unique to this time period. View on Ohio Memory.
