: A hand-written letter to Col. Charles Young from son Charles Noel, in Paris in regards to his well being. Col. Charles Young the first African American to reach the rank of Colonel in the U.S. Army. In 1918, after being forced into retirement, due to health concerns, he rode on horseback from Wilberforce, Ohio to Washington D.C. to prove his physical fitness for duty.
