: Photograph of a hotel erected in 1820 by Charles Harris (1779-1854) on Snow Hill, in Clinton County, Ohio. Fugitive slaves were concealed in the cellar during the period of the Underground Railroad. This picture postcard was sent to Wilbur H. Siebert by E. May McKibben of Martinsville. Siebert (1866-1961) began researching the Underground Railroad in the 1890s as a way to interest his students in history. View on Ohio Memory.
