Description: Engraved portrait of Edward F. Noyes (1832-1890) who served as Ohio's governor from 1872 to 1874. During the Civil War he helped raise the 39th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, eventually being commissioned as its major. He lost his left leg after being wounded in battle near Ruff's Mills, Georgia, i n1864. He continued in politics after his term as governor, including stints as the Ambassador to France and as a justice of the superior court of Cincinnati. View on Ohio Memory.
