Victory in Europe newspaper photograph   Save
World War II Photograph Collection
Description: Photograph of two men reading a copy of "The Zanesville Signal" May 7, 1945 edition with the headline declaring: "NAZIS IN TOTAL SURRENDER. WAR IN EUROPE NOW OVER." This was an extra edition published early on that date especially to announce the Nazi army's surrender in Europe. The caption for the photo in the newspaper reads: "Signal Extras Gave Zanesville News of Surrender." Germany's surrender was welcome news to Pfc. Bill Parry (right) of 523 Shaum Avenue, holder of the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's badge, who was wounded in France. He is on furlough from Billings General Hospital in Indiana. Paul Tague of 1525 Sharon Avenue is shown at left. View on Ohio Memory.
