Ethan A. Brown Collection
Description: Ethan A. Brown (1776-1852) was Ohio's seventh governor, serving from 1818 to 1822. Brown is primarily responsible for organizing and pushing for a canal system in the state of Ohio. He used the sale of federal land to help pay for the canals, which he saw as the way to lead the state out of economic despair during the Panic of 1819 after Ohio's failed attempt to sue the National Bank.
