Description: Carte de visite photograph of Major General Absalom Baird (1824-1905) wearing a general's frock coat. Baird was an important Union leader during the Civil War, and served in various capacities including Inspector General of the Army, Brigadier General of U.S. Volunteers, and commander of the 27th Brigade, 7th Division in the Army of the Ohio under Major General Don Carlos Buell. In 1896, Baird was awarded the Medal of Honor for his efforts at the Battle of Jonesboro. View on Ohio Memory.
