Charles Griffin was born on December 18, 1825, in Granville, Ohio. He graduated 23rd out of 38 in his class at the United States Military Academy, and went on to serve in both the Mexican-American War and the American Civil War. During the Civil War, he was promoted to the rank of Major General, and commanded troops at numerous engagements including the Battle of Antietam, the Battle of Fredericksburg, the Battle of Chancellorsville and the Battle of Gettysburg.
He died on September 15, 1867 in Galveston, Texas. View on Ohio Memory.
