: View of the Ohio River from Eden Park, Ohio. The river stretches for hundreds of miles all the way from western Pennsylvania into Illinois. It became the de facto border of Ohio back when European settlers arrived and settled south of the river, while the native people lived north of it. Eventually it would come to form the official southern border of the state of Ohio. Eventually when Ohio was settled the settlements rested by the river, including Cincinnati. View on Ohio Memory.
