: Edward Drummond Libbey was born on April 17, 1854, in Chelsea, Massachusetts. Attracted by the promotion of a civic group, as well as abundant fuel, Libbey relocated his glass operation, the Libbey Glass Company, from Massachusetts to Toledo in 1888. His company was renowned as a producer of fine art glass. Libbey was the founder and first president of the Toledo Museum of Art. He died in 1925. View on Ohio Memory.
