Description: Carte de visite photograph of General Manning Force from the William T. Sherman Photograph Album, ca. 1861-1865. Force served in the Union Army during the Civil War, joining as a major in the 20th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was eventually made a brevet major general after his bravery during the Battle of Atlanta, during which he was severely wounded in the face, and disfigured for life. For the same actions, he was awarded the Medal of Honor. View on Ohio Memory.
