Description: Maria Jones of Greene County, Ohio, wrote this letter describing conditions on the homefront during the Civil War. Jones was writing to William H. Busbey, a soldier in Company C, 1st Kentucky Volunteer Infantry, who was stationed in Nashville, Tennessee. The letter contains family news and an account of Jones's confrontation with a group of Southern sympathizers near Sabina, Ohio, while she was carrying a Union flag. The letter is four pages long and measures 7.75" x 12" (19.69 x 30.48 cm). Also included is the envelope, printed with an American flag and a patriotic slogan.
