Description: Caption reads: "Former Henry St. Clair residence. E. Third St." Arthur St. Clair, governor of the Northwest Territory from 1787 to 1802, actively opposed Ohio's admittance to the United States. He led troops against Native Americans in the Northwest Indian War and in 1791 suffered a horrible defeat. After retiring, St. Clair experienced some business setbacks and died in poverty in 1818 in Pennsylvania. View on Ohio Memory.
