: The original description reads: "This is a view of the Canal along the Cincinnati and Dayton traction line taken in July 1904." This photograph clearly demonstrates the state of disrepair of the Miami and Erie Canal during this time period. The individuals are shown in the middle of the canal yet the water level is at their ankles in some parts. The Miami and Erie Canal connected the Ohio River in Cincinnati, Ohio and Lake Erie in Toledo, Ohio and was completed in 1845. View on Ohio Memory.
