Description: Photograph taken the morning after the Central Viaduct streetcar accident in Cleveland, Ohio, November 16, 1895. Overnight, a streetcar had plunged through an open draw of the viaduct and into the Cuyahoga River, killing seventeen passengers on board. This photograph comes from the collection of Louis Baus. Baus, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, was born in 1875. He began his career as a professional photographer doing studio work before becoming a staff photographer for the Cleveland Advocate in 1911. Baus worked for the paper, which was later purchased by the Cleveland Plain Dealer, for thirty-eight years until his death in 1949. He was also an avid collector of historic photographs. The Louis Baus Collection consists of over one thousand photographs mounted in eleven albums, showing historic Cleveland, the village of Zoar and Ohio covered bridges and mills. View on Ohio Memory.

Description: Black and white postcard showing a streetview of High Street looking south from State Street in Columbus, Ohio, 1907. On the reverse is a message addressed to Dr. C.E. Rice of Alliance, Ohio. A note indicates that this postcard may have been used in an F. & R. Lazarus Company window display in February of 1934. Seen in the photograph are a streetcar, numerous shops and carriages, and arches spanning the street. The High Street arches were a well-known Columbus attraction, installed for the Northwest Territory centennial celebration in 1888. They were all removed by 1916, but were reinstalled beginning in 2002 and are now a recognizable feature of the Short North arts district in Columbus. View on Ohio Memory.
