This photograph shows the rear of the Harry Linch (Lynch) home and the garden wall, located at 960 Avondale Avenue in the North Avondale community of Cincinnati, Ohio. Built for Cincinnati lawyer Harry L. Linch, it was designed in a combination of Spanish, Italian and Federal style architecture by Grosvenor Atterbury, using rough stone with red brick trim. It is largely an imitation of Atterbury's work for Linch's neighbor, Jean Maxwell Schmidlapp (Ca Sole) in nearby Hyde Park. Landscaping was done by Ferrucio Vitale. View on Ohio Memory.

Description: Document is titled "Pre-Disaster Plans of Sub-Committee on Clothing." The document explains that the disaster committee is responsible for providing clothing to those in need after the event of a disaster in Pomeroy. The document lists the names of the committee members and provides a list of clothing items available from local merchants in the event of an emergency. The document reads: "Pomeroy Pre-Disaster Plans of Sub-Committee on Clothing: Personnel: Chairman- Mr. Frank B. Will - Manager - New York Clothing Store - 444J Mr. Dor Schaefer - " - Red Anchor Dep't Store - 445 Mr. Gerald Rice - " - Luckoff Shoe Store - 44J Mr. R. L. Jacobs - " - Ben Franklin Store - None Mr. Virgil Campbell - " - Campbell & Crow Clothing - 54J This Committee is responsible for providing clothing for Disaster Sufferers and will be responsible to a very great extent for the distribution of donated clothing that might be given to the Red Cross Chapter during a disaster. Headquarters for Clothing will be the new American Legion Home on West Main Street. This will be used as the central station for clothing; but the Sugar Run School House is also available as well as the Kerrs Run School. An effort will be made upon evacuation of homes to have refugees take sufficient clothing with them to last for several days. The Committee believes that a number of volunteer workers will be called upon to assist the committee in the event much clothing is sent in to make this clothing available for refugees' use. This Committee is unanimous in their belief that only clothing that is usable be sent into the disaster area. Inventories shall be kept on all clothing received and issued. The Red Cross form 200B shall be the record of issuance and control for clothing distribution. The Committee has determined that in the event of Disaster the following will be available from local merchants in the Pomeroy Bend: 1000 Blankets 500 Pairs of boots 500 Suits of underwear 350 Pairs of overalls 150 Raincoats 350 Work shirts 500 Pairs of shoes The sub-committee on Clothing will maintain a co-ordination of the activities of other Disaster Committees on Rescue, Transportation, Shelter, Registration and Information. In the event Disaster occurs, this Committee will immediately meet and try to ascertain the needs for clothing. Frank B. Will, Chairman" View on Ohio Memory.

Description: The Delaware flag was adopted on July 24, 1913. The flag has a colonial blue background with a buff color diamond in the center. In the center is the Delaware coat of arms showing a farmer, soldier, ship cow and corn. On the banner under the decoration, is written "Liberty and Independence" Under the coat of arms is written December 7, 1787 which is the date Delaware ratified the United States constitution, making it the first state in the Union. The dimensions of the flag are 95 by 155 cm and the fabric is cotton. View on Ohio Memory.

Description: Infantry flag painted by Robert Needham in the 1960s. Silk flag of the national colors served as the camp colors of the 45th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. The flag in this painting was manufactured in the United States between 1863 and 1865 as separate front and back pieces that were sewn together. The 45th Ohio Volunteer Infantry was organized at Camp Chase in Columbus, Ohio and mustered into service on August 19, 1862. The regiment took part in the siege of Knoxville, the Atlanta Campaign, and the battles of Franklin and Nashville. The regiment was mustered out at Camp Harker, Tennessee, on June 15, 1865. Ohio battle flags were on display at the Ohio Statehouse until the 1960s, when the state formed a committee to oversee the efforts to restore the fragile flags. Some of the battle flags were on display on the Plaza Level of the Ohio Historical Society from 1970 until 1989. For conservation reasons, the flags have been in storage since 1989. Description: The Republic Steel Corporation Collection (MSS 192) consists of 13,000 black and white photographic negatives, 2,000 color photographic negatives, and many 35 mm slides which document Republic Steel Corporation’s main production facilities and its subsidiaries, 1941-1975. This collection also includes images of social events such as company picnics, award banquets, and dances. Founded in 1899, Republic Iron and Steel Company was a steel production company based in Youngstown, Ohio, and the result of a consolidation of 34 steel mills across the United States including the Mahoning Valley’s Brown Bonnell Iron Company, Andrews Brothers and Company, and Mahoning Iron Company. From 1927-1937, Republic Iron and Steel Company expanded its reach by acquiring a number of other companies such as Trumbull Steel Company in Warren, Ohio, and Central Alloy Steel Corporation in Canton, Ohio. With its expansion, Republic Iron and Steel Company became the third largest steel producer in the United States behind United States Steel Corporation and Bethlehem Steel Company, and changed its name to Republic Steel Corporation to reflect its new status. After the outbreak of World War II in 1941, the Corporation’s production increased by 33%. This increased production continued into the 1950s and 1960s as the company continued to be one of the leading developers of steel production technology. Due to a myriad of factors including decreased demand for steel from automobile manufacturers and imported foreign steel, steel sales declined and in 1984 the Republic Steel Corporation was purchased by LTV Corporation, which led to the closure of the Youngstown plant. LTV filed for bankruptcy in December 2000. View on Ohio Memory.

2. Read and Agree

Ohio History Connection Use Agreement and Conditions of Reproduction

  1. One-Time Use. The right to reproduce materials held in the collections of the Ohio History Connection is granted on a one-time basis only, and only for private study, scholarship or research. Any further reproduction of this material is prohibited without the express written permission of the Ohio History Connection.
  2. Use Agreement. Materials are reproduced for research use only and may not be used for publication, exhibition, or any other public purpose without the express written permission of the Ohio History Connection.
  3. Credit. Any publication, exhibition, or other public use of material owned by the Ohio History Connection must credit the Ohio History Connection. The credit line should read “Courtesy of the Ohio History Connection” and should include the image or call number. The Ohio History Connection appreciates receiving a copy or tearsheet of any publication/presentation containing material from the organization’s collections.
  4. Indemnification. In requesting permission to reproduce materials from the collections of the Ohio History Connection as described, the requestor agrees to hold harmless the OHC and its Trustees, Officers, employees and agents either jointly or severally from any action involving infringement of the rights of any person or their heirs and descendants in common law or under statutory copyright.
  5. Reproduction of Copyrighted Material. Permission to reproduce materials in which reproduction rights are reserved must be granted by signed written permission of the persons holding those rights.
  6. Copyright. The Ohio History Connection provides permission to use materials based on the organization’s ownership of the collection. Consideration of the requirements of copyrights is the responsibility of the author, producer, and publisher. Applicants assume all responsibility for questions of copyright and invasion of privacy that may arise in copying and using the materials available through Ohio Memory.
    Warning concerning copyright restriction: The copyright law of the U. S. (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to a photocopy or reproduction. One of the specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship or research.” If a user make a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
  7. Photographs of Objects. The Ohio History Connection retains rights to photographs taken of artifacts owned by the Ohio History Connection.
