Description: This image shows the front facade of the Darke County Courthouse. The building was completed in 1874 by architect Edwin May, and unlike many other courthouses, it was not built on the site of the buildings that preceded it. Instead, the county commissioners moved the location of the county courthouse from West Main Street to Broadway Avenue just after the Civil War because Broadway was becoming the city's main thoroughfare. The Second Empire and Renaissance building is rectangular in shape and has columns with rusticated bases as well as rusticated blocks framing the entrance doorway. Description: This black and white photograph taken June 23, 1937 shows a group of grounded planes. These planes were used during the course of the strike to resupply the mills. There were a couple of incidents where picketers shot at the planes when they attempted to land inside a mill. Description: This statue of a World War I American soldier by sculptor Bruce Wilder Saville sits on the lawn of the Ohio History Center in Columbus, Ohio. Saville, a professor at The Ohio State University, cast the scuplture, named "The Victorius Doughboy" in 1924 to honor veterans of the First World War. The soldier is depicted in mid-stride with his proper left leg forward and his proper right arm holding his gun which rests on his proper right shoulder. In this photograph, the statue is being moved to the Ohio History Center from the Ohio State Museum when the Ohio Historical Society (now the Ohio History Connection) moved to its new home near the State Fairgrounds in 1970.
