Ohio Governors' State of the State Addresses
Description: Governor Thomas Corwin delivered an annual message to the 40th General Assembly of Ohio on Dec. 6, 1842. These 10 pages comprise Document 1 of the 1842/1843 Executive Documents. Corwin (1794-1865), a Whig, was the 14th governor of Ohio, serving from 1840 to 1842. During his administration, he proposed various banking reforms, such as the establishment of a state bank, but he was unsuccessful in passing these proposals due to a largely Democratic assembly. Corwin was also a member of the U. S. House of Representatives and the U. S. Senate in addition to a position as Secretary of the Treasury for President Fillmore. View on Ohio Memory.
