Description: This US Flag 1861-1863 is decorated with 34 stars for the thirty four states. Twenty nine of the stars are reverse appliqued. The flag is hand sewn. There are thirteen red and white strips representing the thirteen original colonies. The shape is rectangular, measuring 112 by 200 cm. The fabric is cotton. Mrs. Juliette Sayre Nichols of New York City donated this item in 1940 in memory of her sister, Mary Anderson Sayre Dana. The flag flew on the Steamer Eugene carrying soldiers during the Civil War. The ladies of New Albany, Indiana, made the flag for Captain Daniel F. Sayre. View on Ohio Memory.
