Description: This is a photograph of a guidon of the 12th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. A guidon is a type of flag carried by and artillery or cavalry company. Much of the flag has been destroyed but it appears to be a swallowtail. Guidons are usually swallowtails. The field has disappeared but most of the flags have 34 stars signifying the 34 states of the union at the beginning of the Civil War. View on Ohio Memory.
