Ohio Battle Flag Audiovisual Collection
Description: This swallowtail guidon of the national colors was used by the 13th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry. The flag was manufactured in the United States between 1861 and 1863. The guidon has 34 gold-painted stars on a blue canton. The stars are arranged in a double-circle pattern with an additional star in each of the canton's four corners. The flag has thirteen alternating red and white stripes. A guidon, usually a swallowtail flag, is a term applied to a type of flag carried by an artillery or cavalry company. This painting was done by Rob Needham and his name appears below the flag by the flag pole. At the bottom is printed "13th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Cavalry". View on Ohio Memory.
