Description: Painting of Guidon of the 13th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry. Swallowtail flag measures 62 cm high by 98 cm wide. This swallowtail guidon of the national colors was used by the 13th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry. The flag was manufactured in the United States between 1861 and 1863. The guidon has 34 gold-painted stars on a blue canton. The stars are arranged in a double-circle pattern with an additional star in each of the canton's four corners. The flag has thirteen alternating red and white stripes. A guidon, usually a swallowtail flag, is a type carried by an artillery or cavalry company. View on Ohio Memory.
