Description: Helen Grace McClelland of Fredericktown, Ohio when she was inducted into the Ohio Women's Hall of Fame in 1978. She served with the Army Nurses Corps in France and Belgium during World War I. McClelland received the Distinguished Service Cross, the military's second highest honor, when she assisted a wounded nurse during a bombing on the casualty clearing station. She was also recognized by England with the Royal Red Cross, First Class for her bravery. After the war she continued her nursing career at Pennsylvania Hospital, where she served as director of nursing from 1933-1956. View on Ohio Memory.
