Description: Cabinet card portrait of General George A. Custer, taken in the summer of 1876 at the request of his wife, Elizabeth B. Custer. Custer was born in New Rumley, Ohio, and was known for his role as cavalry commander for the North during the American Civil War. Custer was killed in combat with a Sioux tribe at the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876, an event also known as Custer's Last Stand. View on Ohio Memory.
