Description: Side detail of soft green-yellow floral pattern stripe faille infare dress, with pleated bodice drapery, a pleated ruffle and a button trim down the skirt front. It features full sleeves with gathered wrists. An infare is a house-warming, reception or party given by a newly-married couple, or by the husband upon receiving the wife to his house. The dress was worn by Betsy Shipman for her October 1841 marriage to Beman Gates. It was also worn by her great-granddaughter, Nancy Hoyt, for her November 1932 marriage to Thomas Caldwell.
