Description: Blue enameled graniteware canning kettle pictured without lid, made ca. 1940-1950. Inside is a metal rack to hold the canning jars. Canning involves cooking food, sealing it in a sterilized container, and boiling the container to kill any remaining bacteria. It is designed to extend the shelf-life for many types of foods. This kettle could be used to sterilize jars both before and after filling using boiling water. View on Ohio Memory.
