Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company's Campbell Works ore bridge and blast furnace   Save
Youngstown Sheet and Tube Audiovisual Archives
Description: This photograph shows the location of the iron ore and the ore bridge in relation to the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Campbell Works, ca. 1920. The bridge moved on a track, clearing the piles of raw material and recovering what was needed with a large crane. According to former employee Chester Kaschak, the darker colored pile to the left is empire ore or sinter. The pile to the right is self-fluxing ore. This kind of ore naturally contains enough lime to yield a proper slag in the blast furnace. Consequently, no limestone is needed in the process. View on Ohio Memory.
