Description: Rev. Henry Ward Beecher (1813-1887) studied at Lane Theological Seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio, and gained a reputation for his oratorical skills. In his sermons, he vehemently attacked drinking and slavery and called for more women's rights. He even convinced his congregations to equip a regiment of soldiers for the American Civil War, along with sending guns to anti-slavery factions during "Bleeding Kansas." His sister, Harriet Beecher Stowe, was the author of Uncle Tom's Cabin. View on Ohio Memory.
