Description: An image of the Cleveland Female Seminary taken from "Historical Sketches of the Higher Educational Institutions, and also of Benevolent and Reformatory Institutions of the State of Ohio," 1876. A forerunner of modern women's colleges, the seminary was founded for the daughters of Cleveland's wealthy citizens by Reverend Eli N. Sawtell. It opened on May 3, 1854. View on Ohio Memory.
